The idea of coming to São Paulo may be seen as quite an adventure! After all, there are over 10 million people in this city, working, studying, doing business, living! Some may look at our chaotic traffic system and wonder how people can come and go.
However, the one thing paulistanos are proud of is the subway system. It is one of the most modern in the world and incredibly efficient. It is easy to move around the city using the subway.
How is it possible? Take a look and check what applies to you:
- I don’t need to be so close to the venue, I want to participate in the convention and enjoy the city.
One good tip is to find a hotel around Paulista Avenue. There is a number of hotels in the region [in Bela Vista or Jardins] which are close to subway stations. Along Paulista Avenue you may find three subway stations: Consolação, Trianon-MASP, or Brigadeiro. They are all in the green line.
Here’s what you should do to get to the venue:
- take the subway in any of these three stations mentioned before going to Sacomã. The subway fare is R$2,70.
- get off at Paraíso station to change to the blue line
- take the train going to Tucuruvi.
- get off at Sé station [this is the biggest and most crowded station in the rush hour]
- take the red line going to Barra Funda
- get off at Barra Funda [it is the final station]
Although this getting on and off trains may sound like something time-consuming, the whole trip [starting in one of the three stations from the beginning] can take no longer than half an hour.
From Barra Funda to the venue, you can either take a bus or a cab. If you prefer the first option, take the 8528-10 bus going to Jardim Guarani or 8500-10 going to Terminal Pirituba. You will find them on Lado Norte Plataforma A inside Barra Funda Terminal. It is a 10-minute ride and the bus fare is R$2,55. When the bus turns left on Marquês de São Vicente, get off at the second bus stop. Go down this avenue for about 300m/ 4min and the venue will be on your right.
- I want to stay in a calmer region to relax after attending the sessions.
If this is the case, you should find a hotel in Vila Mariana. Just be careful: Vila Mariana is a very big neighborhood, and you might book a hotel which is not so close to a subway station. When you do book your hotel, ask the clerk if there is a subway station nearby. You may find good hotels near Ana Rosa, Vila Mariana, Santa Cruz or Praça da Árvore stations.

Again, once you get used to the system you will find it very easy to get to many different places in the city. You can visualize the maps here [check pictures bellow] or you can visit Metrô’s website [http://www.metro.sp.gov.br/redes/teredes.shtml]. When you click on this link, you will be able to access all stations, check what there is around each one and virtually plan your trip! It is easy and fun! Besides, in all stations you can find a Informação ao Usuário booth, where you can get a map with all the lines and some suggestions for free. Maps may also be provided on the first day of the convention.
